After an entirely shitty day on Tuesday, feeling ill (I couldn’t even work, so I must have had it bad), and feeling miserable about missing the mornings snowy fun, Jamie suggested that I go out to play in afternoon when I started to feel a little more human.

Now, wow.
The snow has had a profound impact upon reclaiming something sacred in me —namely my connection to the Craft, the joy of creativity, and the freedom to simply be in my magick. This isn’t just about snowballs and lanterns; it’s a return to my magickal self, untainted by politics, expectations, rules, and the general bullshit I endured whilst working at a certain unorganised ‘organisation.’
Witchling kicked it off by announcing we were going to collect snow. This prompted that little itch inside of me, the need to get my creatrix on and enjoy this frozen gift – illness be damned!
So, an act of witchy gratitude was concocted- threshold magick combined with snowy solstice blessings and a daffodil-filled log! Incidently, the log we have outside our front door (here’s one I prepared earlier style).

The daffodils are such a perfect symbol for hope and light, rising up through the cold, we decided a lantern was needed for some warm, guiding energy. Herbs were combined during tea-time, adding a potent pop. The remit—protection, courage, and fiery transformation with a touch of winter resilience. What we used: cloves, cayenne, salt, rosemary. Red carnation, centaury, blue cohosh and ginger.

Thresholds are gateways between the mundane and the magickal, and I reckon this ritual truly embodies that liminal energy. The log, the daffodils, the lantern, and the snow all working together feel like the opening of a magickal portal, a space where intention flows freely. Plus, it looks stunning.

The daffodils are our central focus, the main vessel for our intentions. We are aiming for our wishes to be carried into the flowers, envisioning them wrapped in magick as they continued to grow. Adding the herb blend around the base of the daffodils crafted a ring of protection and prosperity – and a chant always adds extra power, Witchling did enjoy joining in!
“Light and snow, fire and bloom, Bless this threshold, banish gloom. Let daffodils rise and magick take hold, Threshold blessed with power bold.”
We repeated it three times as we sprinkled the herbs.

Then, we fashioned some little balls of snow to act as temporary offerings. We made 8 – one for each sabbat. As they melt, they’ll “feed” the daffodils for the entire spin of the Wheel, carrying our Magick within.
Our lantern acts as the guiding force, illuminating our blessing and threshold. When we lit it, we whispered this to the fledging flame…
“Lantern bright, guide the way, Through the longest night to Solstice Day. Fire burns, the wheel does turn, Blessings to this home return.”
Hopefully, its light will act as a beacon for protection, prosperity, and renewal as we light it each night in the run up to the Winter Solstice.
